Version v1.2.4

Definition

The ability to pre-align scope, timelines, criteria, and risk assumptions so avoidable conflict does not appear later.

Poles

Each HES element is a spectrum, not a category: the Low and High poles describe how it presents at its two extremes, while the Reference marks the typical, everyday middle. The poles map variation across the range — neither end is inherently better or worse.

Low Pole

Chronic “we assumed differently” clashes.

High Pole

Low surprise, low rework: expectations are aligned before execution begins.

Reference

Strong with external clients; weaker internally (or vice versa).

Measure

Primary: Expectation Alignment — degree of match between parties’ expectations pre-start and mid/end.

Measuring Methods

Capture explicit scope/criteria/timeline → later compare interpretations and friction.

Empirical Anchor

Expectation management / psychological contract management (Rousseau, 1995); realistic job preview concept (Premack & Wanous, 1985).

Notes

Adjacent to prioritization, but here the unit is inter-personal alignment of frames.
