Poles
Each HES element is a spectrum, not a category: the Low and High poles describe how it presents at its two extremes, while the Reference marks the typical, everyday middle. The poles map variation across the range — neither end is inherently better or worse.
Goal vagueness tolerance: acts comfortably under vague goals; clarification feels like unnecessary delay.
Almost automatically defines goals and success criteria; dislikes moving without an explicit definition of “done.”
Clarifies in high-stakes work; tolerates vagueness in minor tasks.
Measure
Measuring Methods
• Pre-start checklist: do measurable criteria appear reliably?
• Rework rate due to unclear goals.
Empirical Anchor
Notes
• Risks at MIN: execution chaos, “we built the wrong thing.”
• Risks at MAX: delayed starts, “clarification paralysis.”
