Version v1.2.4

Definition

The capacity to align people around a goal by demonstrating direction, cadence, accountability, role clarity, and execution coherence.

Poles

Each HES element is a spectrum, not a category: the Low and High poles describe how it presents at its two extremes, while the Reference marks the typical, everyday middle. The poles map variation across the range — neither end is inherently better or worse.

Low Pole

Group drifts; goals remain vague; commitments do not hold.

High Pole

Produces coordinated movement: clarity, accountability, stable delivery.

Reference

Strong in small teams; weaker in large or political systems.

Measure

Primary: Coordination Output — stable goal attainment under comparable resource constraints.

Measuring Methods

Matched projects → compare outcomes, timeline stability, conflict load, and retention.

Empirical Anchor

Leadership capacity / transformational leadership (Bass, 1985); leadership emergence (Judge et al., 2002); leader effectiveness.

Notes

Leadership ≠ dominance; dominance may damage coordination.
