Poles
Each HES element is a spectrum, not a category: the Low and High poles describe how it presents at its two extremes, while the Reference marks the typical, everyday middle. The poles map variation across the range — neither end is inherently better or worse.
Low integrative conflict style: conflict tends toward avoidance or force; dialogue and solution-building are weak.
Conflict is handled constructively: interests are discussed, solutions explored, contact maintained.
Constructiveness is resource-dependent: drops under fatigue, rises when calm.
Measure
Measuring Methods
• Negotiation observation: interest identification and option generation.
• Self-report verified against facts: typical response pattern.
Empirical Anchor
Notes
• Risks at MIN: relationship destruction; chronic “wars.”
• Risks at MAX: decision delay in the name of harmony.
