Reputation Management

BD09 Motivation & Drive
Derived LayerMML-3

Version v1.2.4

Definition

The skill and tendency to maintain a credible public image of competence and trustworthiness through consistent signaling and impression control.

Poles

Each HES element is a spectrum, not a category: the Low and High poles describe how it presents at its two extremes, while the Reference marks the typical, everyday middle. The poles map variation across the range — neither end is inherently better or worse.

Low Pole

Reputation is largely accidental; the person neglects trust-signals and credibility maintenance.

High Pole

Deliberately builds and protects credibility through consistency, transparency, and prevention of avoidable trust breaks.

Reference

Manages reputation in key arenas without living behind a permanent mask.

Measure

Primary: Stability — longitudinal stability of perceived competence and trustworthiness across observers and settings.

Measuring Methods

Longitudinal 360 surveys + analysis of reliability signals (timelines, quality, communication) and their consistency.

Empirical Anchor

Reputation management / impression management (Schlenker, 1980); self-presentation strategy; reputation as strategic asset.

Notes

Distinct from integrity: reputation is external perception; integrity is internal coherence (they can diverge).
