Poles
Each HES element is a spectrum, not a category: the Low and High poles describe how it presents at its two extremes, while the Reference marks the typical, everyday middle. The poles map variation across the range — neither end is inherently better or worse.
Easily captured by digital pulls; frequent unplanned dives into feeds/chats; high notification noise and attention fragmentation.
Deliberately structured digital environment: notification policy, time windows, rules and friction that protect sleep and focus.
Mostly stable control with predictable dips during high stress or fatigue.
