Definition

The ability to communicate clearly, firmly, and relevantly under aggression, severe time scarcity, or high stakes, without devolving into chaos, defensiveness, or counterattack.

Poles

Each HES element is a spectrum, not a category: the Low and High poles describe how it presents at its two extremes, while the Reference marks the typical, everyday middle. The poles map variation across the range — neither end is inherently better or worse.

Low Pole

Communication fragments: emotional flooding, blaming, shutdown, or vague generalities replace structured content.

High Pole

Clear, structured delivery under pressure: concise, goal-relevant, boundary-aware, tension-managed.

Reference

Stays clear in moderate tension, but direct attack undermines structure or triggers defensive spirals.

Measure

Clarity: degree of structure and comprehensibility under pressure.
• Stability: consistency of constructive communication as pressure intensifies.

Measuring Methods

Conflict and crisis simulations; review of real high-stakes calls; criterion-based external rating of clarity/structure.

Notes
