Poles
Each HES element is a spectrum, not a category: the Low and High poles describe how it presents at its two extremes, while the Reference marks the typical, everyday middle. The poles map variation across the range — neither end is inherently better or worse.
External control aversion: control quickly triggers irritation, motivation loss, or sabotage; the person deteriorates under checks, regulation, and being watched.
Remains steady under external control; performance and composure persist even with dense reporting and oversight.
Handles control well when it feels fair; markedly worse when it feels absurd or distrust-based.
Measure
Measuring Methods
• Observation during checks: affective reaction plus productivity.
• Real-world analysis: performance changes when reporting requirements intensify.
Empirical Anchor
Notes
• Risks at MIN: conflict, exits, anti-organizational behavior.
• Risks at MAX: excessive tolerance of poor systems (conformity).
