Poles
Each HES element is a spectrum, not a category: the Low and High poles describe how it presents at its two extremes, while the Reference marks the typical, everyday middle. The poles map variation across the range — neither end is inherently better or worse.
Prolonged after-effects: slow rebound of energy, clarity, and tempo; lingering “drag” even when the stressor ends.
Fast, full rebound: return to baseline clarity, energy, and effective pace with minimal residual effects.
Recovers within 1–2 days after peaks, but repeated stressors stack and progressively slow recovery.
Measure
• Recovery: degree of completeness of return to baseline.
