Poles
Each HES element is a spectrum, not a category: the Low and High poles describe how it presents at its two extremes, while the Reference marks the typical, everyday middle. The poles map variation across the range — neither end is inherently better or worse.
High context-dependence: “different me” in different places; values and style shift easily with environment.
Stable and recognizable; core lines of behavior and values persist across contexts.
Stable in essentials while adapting details to situation.
Measure
Measuring Methods
• Decision diary: context dependence patterning.
• External ratings: recognizability across environments.
Empirical Anchor
Notes
• Risks at MIN: distrust (“who are you really?”); internal strain.
• Risks at MAX: rigidity; weak adaptation.
